Welcome to the SOPHOCLES study!

Part of our study team at the Hannover Medical School: On the left is the head of the SOPHOCLES study, Prof. Dr. med. Dr. Anette Melk; on the right is a young patient with his mother.

Our mission is to improve the health of children and adolescents after kidney transplantation and to prevent late effects. Thanks to medical advances, long-term survival after kidney transplantation has improved significantly. It is therefore more important than ever to pay attention to long-term complications, especially damage to the cardiovascular system. High blood pressure is an important risk factor for this, and is particularly common after kidney transplantation.

To date, there have been insufficient studies to determine which blood pressure range is best, i.e. to avoid damage to the cardiovascular system and to minimize the side effects of the medication. The aim of the SOPHOCLES study is to find out which blood pressure setting is ideal for children and adolescents after kidney transplantation.

We would be delighted if you would support us and take part in this study!

The SOPHOCLES study team

Research is always teamwork. And in the case of our SOPHOCLES study, even teamwork for doctors at numerous hospital locations. Here you can get to know the brains behind the SOPHOCLES study, what motivates them and what goals they have set themselves.

It is also very important to us at this point that our study would never be possible without the cooperation of the many young patients. Without them, conducting the SOPHOCLES study would be inconceivable. In this respect, they are also part of our team.
